fall for it, please ensure that you don't either! We also had
a member who was advertising an item for sale on this page. The "buyer"
sent a cheque for £3000 more than the sum agreed. The buyer then
contacted the seller and explained that this was a mistake and could
he please cash the cheque and send her the £3000. Needless to
say he didn't fall for it and neither should you. Be warned!
There
also seem to be attempts to defraud people who put Wanted adverts on
the site, where the writer claims to have the wanted item but doesn't
refer to it specifically but talks about 'the subject title' or 'the
above subject stated'. They usually claim to be from foreign countries
and the English used is pretty bad. We're not sure how the fraud works,
possibly asking for payment before delivery. Once again be warned!

"Bridget
IV" 1969 Hull no. 342. Bilge Keels. Lying ashore Poynton,
Cheshire. Offers
We will be
sad to see her go but family commitments mean she must: to a good
home only.
We acquired
Bridget IV in 1999 after she had spent at least 15 years ashore.
We spent a lot of time and effort getting her ship-shape including
a lot of new woodwork, new windows, new sails, refurbishment/repair
and replacement of rudder, stock fittings and tiller, refurbishment
and re-fit of cast-iron ballast, new iroko rubbing strakes and
replacement of many fittings and hardware with decent quality
hardware and materials. (Possibly the only boat available with
a titanium heads seawater inlet strainer.) Since 2003 she has
been on my drive, dry under a tarpaulin. I would say that she
is a semi-project boat, in that she is ready to go to sea but
some may consider some aesthetic improvements desirable, viz:
- titivation
of remaining original woodwork in the cabin
- acquisition
of fitted bunk cushions (variety of rectangular cushions to
both quarter berths included: they do the job: I've slept soundly
on them many times)
- a damn
good scrub and polish
- completion
of minor gel-coat repairs which I started on the cabin roof
(the hull is sound and solid with no damage or osmosis)
- re-fitting
the sea toilet
She is on
a road trailer which has seen better days but should be fine with
new tyres and a service of the bearings. I'm happy to deliver
nationally for the cost of the diesel if necessary.

Hurley 24/70,
fin keel, Sail No. 98. She has recently been laid up for the winter
in Gosport, but can be brought back into commission quickly if
required.
The engine, a BETA 13.5 hp, was new in 2004 (including new prop
and shaft) with 660 reliable hours logged. Mast and boom fitted
with single line reefing were new in 2000, all standing rigging
has been replaced, new mainsail and genoa in 2008 with the originals
available as spares. All running rigging is less than 3 years
old.
Inventory includes 2 anchors with chain and warp, recently serviced
Jabsco sea toilet, 85ah battery with solar panel, DSC/VHF radio,
GPS, Taylors Ideal K two burner stove, new tiller pilot, Rotostay
roller reefing system new in 2008. Masthead LED tri and anchor
light and combined VHF/windex new in 2010, new steaming light
2011, new NASA Clipper wind and combined speed/ depth instruments.
An old but well serviced dinghy is included.
Recently serviced sail cover and dodgers, new Plastimo 50lt flexible

CONSTRUCTION:
The hull and deck is of GRP construction with the hull painted
dark blue. The deck has light blue anti-slip surface throughout.
Steering is by tiller to a skeg-hung moulded rudder. The 4-berth
cabin has 6ft headroom. Aft of the fore-cabin and to port is a
separate heads with manua- pumped WC. To starboard is a full-length
hanging locker. The saloon has seating and 2 quarter berths, a
galley with stainless steel sink, with integral 10 gallon water
tank, plus a 2
burner cooker with grill. There is ample cupboard and under bunk
storage to port & starboard.
INVENTORY

18' Hurley,
3 berth, bilge keel. In fair working order, subject to usual wear
and tear on a boat of this age (1970s) - condition as seen. Blue
hull, pale-blue topside. Keel pins were inspected 4 years ago;
full inventory & survey; engine serviced in the spring - the
reserve price reflects this. The boat is fitted with heads (pump
loo), and small stove/sink with a chart table over the top. I've
owned her for 7 years and am selling with great regret after moving
house inland and no longer having the time to enjoy Elle properly;
she has a sail number and maker’s disc but I don’t have
the details where I now live. I have hardly used her for the last
3 years but she is a great little boat to sail on, single-handed

dues. She would benefit from some sealant around the stanchion
posts but this in no way affects her sailability! At some point
she will need new running rigging. Inspection available on an
individual basis, subject to low tide, lying Salcombe.
