RENEWING THE COCKPIT SOLE WITH TEAK STRIPS ON H22 VIXEN
BY
KEVIN MITCHELL

When I originally saw my boat any anti slip material that was ever glued to the cockpit sole had pretty well disappeared, there were just a few patches left which I later managed to scrape off. I cleaned the area as well as I could and lightly sanded the whole surface, both the shallow indents and the higher areas.

I measured the lengths and widths of each strip noting exactly how deep the indents are and allowing both for a 10mm overlap on each side of the indent and for Sikaflex bedding and approached a Boatwright by the name of Ian Bowles who specialises in teak decks and is based at Baltic Wharf in Totnes. He kindly machined each up for me which was a delicate job and required absolute accuracy.
The bedding down was done one at a time and then placing a piece of plywood over all the planks with various weights on top including all of my old sub aqua diver's lead and a couple of concrete blocks.

The final job was to oil the wood and there you have it.
